Well done Joan Smith for showing initiative. HMCTS please take note. Given the ubiquity of translation apps and given their increasing levels of sophistication, this seems to me the way to go.

Obviously though, individual clients should be free to hire human translators at their own expense if they want a bespoke 'Rolls Royce' service. In the current financial environment, I suggest that this kind of bespoke service shouldn't be subsidized by hard-pressed taxpayers, many of whom are on modest incomes.
