Richard Oreton - I read Anon @ 13.07's comment as agreeing with you - that the blindingly obvious is that family support and contact is beneficial (hence the reference to being facetious in suggesting that contact with criminal family members might not work!)
But perhaps I misread it?

I have to admit that my first reaction when reading the headline was 'no shit, Sherlock' as it does seem fairly obvious (and I would have thought, already well known) that family support is hugely important for rehabilitation.
