No, Anon, the UK doesn't "want to have its cake and eat it" (though, by the way, what's the point of having a cake if you can't eat it?). It doesn't even want to eat its cake and still have it. It simply wants a fair, sensible and perfectly achievable deal with the EU - something which the Brussels bureaucracy is determined to frustrate, however much harm that policy may inflict upon its own members.

But most of all, the UK - or rather, the British public - very wisely wants to be out of the movement towards "ever-closer union" before that union (destined ultimately to be catastrophic for the people of Europe) gets any closer.
