After 23 years there should in most circumstances be an equal split. An larger introduction of capital by one party at the outset after such a long time should in most cases be irrelevant.

'Meeting a parties needs' is really just a get out for the party who was wealthy one before the marriage!!

You marry someone, and without a prenuptial agreement, you agree and accept that all your respective wealths brought int the marriage belong to both of you equally. That is my view and is also partly what marriage means.

Had it been a short marriage, or there were other unusual extenuating circumstances, my view would be different.
