To be fair to him, the point Sean makes is that solicitors do not have a monopoly on professional conduct, ethics, or honesty. However the point about solicitors being heavily regulated is a bit moot. The SRA has never been so ineffective. Not sure thar they have a grip on professional conduct. At a market level i suspect there is more "harm" to the public being caused by incompetent, or avaricious lawyers who exploit information assymmetries routinely (very excessive charges for probate admin for example) than the very few MF out there. Dont get me wrong, as a solicitor i believe there should be competent legal representation for all, but should we vilify MF the vast majority of which I have come across are genuinely trying to help, when its our society that values marginal cost saving over access to justice.
