On Mr Whitehurst's 4th point, emails definitely multiply copies. However, if earlier emails in the thread are omitted from the reply email (on the basis they feature earlier on in the bundle), especially when an email thread has many strands/contributors, it is more difficult and time consuming to understand the email by flicking backwards and forwards. Hence they are repeated.

This sort of thing should be explained in the witness statements, and duplication made unnecessary, but this doesn't always happen. The more stuff there is, the 'easier' it is to find it if it appears in several places!

Electronic bundles should be the answer.
