I wanted to post just to clear up one point referred to a previous comments. I am a solicitor at Pinsent Mason's London office so I can confirm this isn't about getting rid of a 1:1 fee earner to PA ratio because that is, indeed, a luxury. My PA already looks after 5 fee earners. With colleagues made redundant she will mop up a further fee earner no doubt... with the result that junior fee earners will simply be expected to absorb the extra admin as well as hitting billable hours targets. They do have a facility to outsource work to South Africa but this is nothing new or innovative for Pinsent Masons. Unfortunately no "technology" will replace the benefits of a proper, trusting, human relationship with a PA or secretary.
