Some commenters here don't seem to realise how dangerous it would be if solicitors were to formally accept responsibility for expressing an opinion on the wisdom of a particular transaction rather than just putting the facts before the client and accepting that the client has to exercise a commercial judgment.
It might feel good to be that sort of old fashioned, helpful advisor but the level of risk thereby created is potentially infinite.
Nor should the client be allowed to put the blame on the solicitor for the client's lack of literacy, numeracy or commercial acumen.
