As a former solicitor who retired 20 years ago (my name is off the roll because I declined to pay the annual £25 to remain on the roll), my experience was that an awful lot of solicitors simply cannot add up.

In particular they would not be able to grasp the concept of an exponential curve. If you the reader do not know what that is, I recommend you google it - especially if you are in the conveyancing sector.

Twenty years ago, my response would have been to have 'declined' to act for the client in such a purchase and to tell her bluntly that I had to do so in order to protect myself from a subsequent negligence claim.
