I've ordered tyres for two of my cars recently from a fast fit tyre company and on both occasions having given them my mobile no. so they can apparently inform me if there's a problem fitting them. I've then received cold calls about accidents etc within 24 hours of giving them my mobile no. I'm 99% certain they the company has passed on my mobile on both occasions but it's impossible to prove and there's always the chance it was just a dodgy employee passing on my no. rather than actual company policy.

Why can't we have a law where any cold call company as to confirm where they obtain our contact details upon request?
