Well, all right, Mr Mock Turtle, he hasn't actually been charged with rape, but he is sought by Sweden (surely a "rule of law" nation if ever there was one?) on a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of rape. And he has evaded that warrant by pretending to claim political asylum in the embassy of a country which, like Russia (as you imply), is no less famous for its devotion to that selfsame rule of law.

An "impasse" indeed, as you rightly observe.

Whether Mr Assange is or is not a "likeable character" seems to me (and I hope I can speak for Anon?) a matter of relatively small importance.
