May I propose one simple change to the court process (at least as it applies to the Criminal Courts).

Hearings should start promptly at 10, have one hour for lunch, and finish at 4:30 (with short breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon).

"Isn't this what happens now?" I hear some people ask. NO!

Starts are delayed or proceedings interrupted because of trial judges having to deal with 'other matters'. In one case a trial that could easily have been completed in four days actually took seven because of delayed starts every day. The Defence Expert Witness had to be flown in for the Monday and Tuesday of the second week because his evidence wasn't heard by the end of the 4 days that he had reserved in his diary in the previous week.
