The problem is that the SRA is fireproof. It can make allegations and spend millions of pounds pursuing those allegations, without being properly accountable to those whose money it is spending. It is very good at telling solicitors what they must do, but very bad about showing the transparency and high standards which it demands of solicitors.

The Law Society is no better, having fought and lost the Socrates case and then adopted a thoroughly unapologetic tone when faced with that defeat.
