I have seen Solicitors firms in the North West claiming up to £280.00 p/h for a basic slip/trip claim (Firm A) in their budgets and others in and around the area claiming guidelines for the same types of claim (Firm B). If the Client is going to be liable a deduction of up to x% in the shortfall of inter partes vs solicitor own client costs they might think twice about instructing Firm A if they can see another local firm is charging more reasonable rates and this will assist in weaselling out the rip off firms and promote the reasonable ones and may have a knock on affect of bringing costs down generally meaning there is less of an incentive to bring in fixed costs as there will be less ammo for the insurers to go at if those firms start to fall away or have to act more competitively and reasonably.
