I am at a loss to understand why this case got to trial. The issue has been litigated before and the judges made clear that it is one for determination by parliament - and parliament has made clear that it does not support 'assisted suicide'. Had it not been a 'sensitive issue', no doubt the case would have been summarily dismissed. As it is, the campaigners are already taliking about an appeal to the Supreme Court. I hope that it will be robust and pragmatic in refusing permission to appeal. I also hope that costs were ordered against those funding this campaign by way of litigation. They would be better advised to apply their resources to lobbying parliament. But maybe they are not doing so because they realise that neither parliament nor 'the people' support what they desire.
