Let's be clear about this. The new court will be in the City of London and is possible only because the City of London Corporation owns the building and will be contributing a considerable part of the cost; that is how it can be afforded, it is not being paid for just by the MoJ. The City Corporation also owns the other court buildings in the City, the Magistrates Court in Queen Victoria Street, the Mayors and City of London Court in Guildhall Yard (which I and others have fought to keep open) and the Central Criminal Court (on which the City Corporation is spending millions to keep it in repair).

It will not affect the Central London County Court (which I agree is about the worst County Court in the country).

Despite the comments from the last contributor, I will always use the Mayors and City of London Court (incidentally the only County Court not to have County in its name) if I possibly can. I find the staff there courteous and efficient and the waiting times for a hearing much less than in almost any other court I have come across.

Although the court building is provided by the City Corporation, the judges are appointed, and paid, in the same way as all other judges and have no connection with the City of London Corporation.
