'Mental health awareness' is a double edged sword.

Good intentions here one would hope, but the problem is once tarred with the mental health brush at work this inevitably scuppers an employee's career prospects, depending of course on the severity of the condition. It could very well trigger the eventual loss of their job. We can be politically correct and pretend otherwise but let's be real. The legal profession is no less cut throat and ruthless than any other industry or corporate environment and is hard enough for an individual to navigate as a career without being labelled as mentally ill or unstable.

A system for identifying and helping those in the work place suffering with mental ill health may look good on the surface and obviously if it helps staff feeling under pressure that's great. In reality, however, this will be like gold dust to HR managers looking to get rid of people they deem to be a liability or when needing to find candidates for redundancy. The hidden agenda here is surely obvious?

For me this article rings alarm bells; what it doesn't say seems to speak louder.
