Anon 10.00 - have you even seen the EU Regulation? Do you know where and how to sue a defendant airline based in, say, the Czec Republic? How much is the court fee for issuing? Is it a no-cost system? Are costs recoverable under the system? How does the EU Small Claim system come into play?

Of course, people can litigate themselves, but are at a disadvantage against an insurer who has the funds and resources to fight cases. Lawyers provide a service to those that want to pay for it.
