These middle aged judges, male and female, are part of the furniture. It's an occupational risk and you have to know how to deal with them. I've was a trial lawyer for over 30 years. I only had a couple of judges try to intimidate me. The way to deal with it is to know what you are doing, stand your ground, let them have their say and respond "Yes, that's one view, your honour." If you make a mistake, and the judge points it out, quickly apologise and rethink your question. I've seen so many lawyers try to argue with a judge and a lot of the lawyers deserve what they get back in return. Lawyers need to look at themselves as well and many need to be pulled up for sloppiness and incompetence in the way they present cases. In many situations the lawyers get away with poor presentation, weak arguments, lack of knowledge of the law and it's only the judge who is going to pick them up since their colleagues aren't in court to witness it.
