With that many solicitors and growing, there can no longer be any argument for the need for "liberalisation" of the legal market to allow non lawyers to provide legal services.

I actually think the SRA has the right approach here in removing the restrictions on lawyers.

Think of it this way, I as a qualified solicitor of 6 years PQE can't go near the public as an individual unless I set up as a sole practitioner and pay eye watering levels of PII I can't afford (I'm a poor high street lawyer, sorry).

Yet any tom dick and harry who wants to call themselves a "lawyer" under the guise of a McKenzie Friend can act with impunity without training regulation or safeguard.
