How many of those qualifying over the past few years have found work as solicitors? If all or most have, then there cannot be any justifiable argument in favour of 'quotas'. But if many haven't, why do these youngsters spend a small fortune on training for a job that they have little realistic chance of obtaining? One would have thought that an intelligent 18 year old would undertake a 'due diligence' exercise before embarking upon a law degree and/or postgraduate legal training and, on seeing the reality of the situation, pursue other avenues and seek to employ their talents somewhere else that offers better opportunities and rewards. Or is it that those who teach law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels are giving them rose tinted spectacles - in order to justify their continued existence but without any proper regard for the futures or the finances of their young charges?
