As a defence solicitor I find that speedy justice in the magistrates court has led to cases being rushed through with inadequate disclosure from the CPS. I've been told by one Magistrates' court that they no longer list hearings for s.8 application (to raise disclosure issues) before a trial. On the day of the trial there is reluctance to adjourn for further disclosure. I'm also aware anecdotally that there is a tendancy for solicitors to advise clients to plead guilty for an easier quick turn around so more profitable/less likely to make a loss.
