Flora: People who have no children are, to be sure, not providing a pension-payer - but they are not providing a pension-taker either. People with a lot of children are providing a lot of both. It works out in the long run.

What is unreasonable in the short run is asking for adjustments to the working practices of the people without dependents to help out the people with them. It's not fair, and it is probably indirect sex and age discrimination.

My son is adult and off my hands and that gives me a lot more freedom than I had when he was a child. And it's MY freedom. Not my colleagues' freedom.
