Surely there are two extremes here. I suggest that at one end is the person who makes and distributes such material for gain; at the other is the person who in a moment of weakness is unable to restrain an urge to view such material and perhaps does so on an isolated occasion. It seems from the comments of others with more knowledge than me that the offence could encompass both extremes. We have only a limited summary of the facts, but I note we are also told the offender was ordered to attend an alcohol treatment programme, from which I conclude that this is someone whose life was in a mess generally. I find, after much thought, that I have to agree with those who urge compassion. Fitness or otherwise to practise is a decision for the Tribunal, who will presumably have had all the facts before them.
