Slightly off topic, but I was met off the plane in Paris once by an Air France minion who knew that I was transitting and would be in CdG for a couple of hours. This, I thought, was a nice touch, however it transpired that she was there to relieve me of my bunch of keys. They could be used as a weapon, she explained, while reassuring me that they would be given back to me when I boarded my next flight.

My astonishment that Air France were tacitly happy to have people with weapons on their planes paled into something rather more petulant, upon being shown into a transit lounge in which were for sale several thousand heavy-based, die cast metal statues of the Eiffel Tower.
