I had a flimsy waiter's mate taken from me by security at Paris CDG once (despite it having made it through the earlier connecting flight without issue). In any event, I was sure it would have simply bent had I actually attempted to so much as actually open a bottle with it so I was not particularly troubled by parting with it.

I was however then permitted onto the plane (delayed due to a ground crew strike) where, by way of apology for the delay, there were full magnums of champagne available (read, large, glass, baseball bat-shaped objects) and the in-flight food and plastic cutlery had been replaced with picnic food and metal serrated steak knives (again, due to the ground-crew strike).

Thank goodness they'd taken my flimsy waiter's mate away or I could have been a real danger to someone (most likely myself).
