Let me explain it to you Dr Jane. The Great British public are not my responsibility. If you and the LSB/SRA/CMA want to "educate" what you call 'consumers' then do so. Explain to them the different types of provider. Explain that some charge fixed fees and some charge by the hour. Explain that at the initial conference they should produce their documents and seek an estimate as to total costs. And that then they can decide to either instruct that provider or go to another.

You can also explain that as legal aid has been destroyed [and you, the LSB, CMA and SRA have done nothing to address that issue with Government] that those people who don't have any money won't be able to get legal advice anyway-even if every provider advertised their price menu-unless they can find a CAB or Student Law office or charity that gives advice-or maybe one of the law-bots might be able to help them.

You can tell them why you have failed to challenge the Government and the MoJ about the public funding of access to legal advice and to justice.

As for the enforced disclosure of "prices" I can tell you why I won't be doing it. It's my business and I shall market it, promote it and run it my way. How I engage with potential clients and how I service the needs of my clients is a matter between them and me and none of your or the LSB's or SRA's or CMA's business. It is my business and it is my choice. How I promote my business is at my risk and absolutely nothing to do with you or the British public.
I'm not posting anonymously. If you or anyone else wishes to engage with me rather than threaten me or goad me or tell me what to do then do get in touch. We can have tea and stottie sandwiches.
