Do the Home Office as a matter of public policy even want the Police to arrest and detain anybody? It would appear not the way they are slashing away at Police budgets. Have you tried to report a crime lately? I did and it took over four hours to see someone. When I did they refused to take the complaint for an offence of criminal damage. The prisons are full. Prison costs so much per person isn't it cheaper to put someone up in a good hotel? If you were the Home Office person in charge of prisons, what would you do to delay magistrates and judges remanding people in custody or sentencing them to custody? Someone should be taking a good hard look at why prison costs so much. Instead the Home Office think it appropriate to dismantle the police service and the court system instead.
