Some years ago I had a case involving several solicitors and barristers from North Wales and myself and my counsel from London. For all of us and the lay parties the most convenient venue was Chester, but we were given the choice of Wrexham or Mold - which is not even on the railway - because Chester is in England. Mercifully it settled.

One of the Welsh solicitors told me that he had had to beg and plead for a j.r. to be in Manchester, nor Cardiff which is a difficult journey from North Wales.

Neither case involved any Welsh speaker!
