The attitude that is wrong is the "It's not what you know, it's who you know" and this causes problems not just for social mobility but for everyone else - because we are not getting the most able people to do things...

There is nothing wrong with excellence (how can there be?)...unless there is an assumption that only a certain type of person can provide it ...

We also need to get to grips with what is really meant by "elite". In my mind, an "elitist attitude" is wanting the best people for the task or job in question regardless of where they went to school or college/university...again how can there be anything wrong with that?

"Elite" is a much misused and misunderstood term and as a result has become a dirty word.

I want the most able people to be doing any particular job wherever possible...in that I am unashamedly elitist!
