Anon 20.07 not dim at all. Trust me I struggled with it myself when I got done over first time round. It’s enshrined in the solicitors act 1974. If the client shaves 20% off the bill you pay the costs of assessment on indemnity basis. Obviously the client takes the risk of paying indemnity costs if they don’t knock 20% offbut when you are dealing with small numbers and you are up in front of a DJ who takes pity on the client it doesn’t take much to do down on the costs.
