What I am saying is that if a 17 year old signs up to a two year mobile contract, and cancels it after 19 months, and owes EE £47.90, and gets a claim served at their university halls of residence, I personally don't think that they should be banned from getting a mortgage four years later.

(which is what the practical effect of the current CCJ registration rules, and the FCA's 'mortgage market review' process to stop any Northern Rock style lending to people with bad credit scores who may not pay the mortgage back, has achieved).

They can still get a CCJ, and enforce it, and send the bailiffs round, etc. But I think there should be a cut off point below which it doesn't go on the credit score.
