It's all very reminiscent of Myra Hindley and the cowardly efforts of successive Home Secretaries to postpone forever the date of her parole or release despite the trial judge's original sentence and the recommendations of parole boards. The government capitulates too easily to any fuss made by the Sun or Mail. Crowd-pleasing statements are issued by those who haven't taken legal advice. I am sure Mr Worboys is an unpleasant individual - maybe if he had not been a black cab driver he wouldn't have had quite so much notoriety. But there are lots of rapists and sex offenders in our prisons. Why try to single him out? And why try to ban him from "London" as if part of his perversion was to rape only Londoners? I do wish we had a government that was willing to speak up for law and justice and to explain the system to the public rather than forever look for ways of overruling decisions made by judges or parole boards.
