Three points-- (1) As many posts point out, if one is going to tar a named individual with a particular brush, you need evidence - innuendo will not do. (2) In contrast, by all means condemn the general bad behaviour that took place at the event in question; such behaviour should not be tolerated, the more so as, by all accounts, previous such events had been attended by similar bad behaviour (which is why the reporter who spilled the beans went undercover in the first place). (3) It is deeply saddening that this episode has made it so much more difficult for others to put on fund-raising events of the 'well-heeled attend dinner at a high price with high-bid auction to follow' variety. This kind of thing is not everyone's cup of tea, but they are a not unreasonable proposition as part of the charity fund-raising armoury. As it now stands, even charities who have benefited in the past from the President's Club dinners have felt constrained to hand back what they have received.
