I'm not a litigation solicitor, but ordinary common sense suggests that it is very underhand of insurers to settle direct with claimants and try to evade paying the solicitors' costs when an actions have been commenced. I used to conduct PI claims and we simply got paid on settling. Sharp practice seems to be creeping into everything these days masquerading as business savvy. What's the world coming to, etc, etc.
