It seems that the messages were sent to a female colleague. One would not easily find a message " offensive racist and discriminatory" if the message was sent once only or on a few occasions. I would treat it as a joke if it did not repeat. Similar messages were sent over a period of time. The nature of the contents must have reached such a threshold that the colleague was not able to tolerate any more. I wonder if the colleague had registered a grievance with the employer, the GMC, about the intolerable conduct of a male colleague and if the employer had acted according to their grievance procedures. The fact that the offender had left the job may imply that there had been grievance or disciplinary procedures.
