She was an experienced criminal solicitor. She knew, or should have known, which side was up in relation to prisoners and mobile phones. A halfwit in a hurry would twig the problem.

Her contact with her client seems to have been entirely professional. The sort of thing that a letter would cover. That, I suspect, is what saved her from immediate custody.

The economic and pressured problems of a general criminal practice are common to all its practitioners.

The result was a merciful one - mercy isn't a bad thing. But given other similar decisions it may be appealed.
