The whole purpose of the Parole Board since it was created half a century ago has been to insulate parole decisions from Ministers and the three P-for-pernicious influences on Ministers:

Party backbenchers
Pollsters
Press

and for these purposes Ministers includes Mayors.

As for newspapers being allowed to access what would necessarily be confidential medical and psychiatric reports on individuals: No. Just no. Those individuals did not lose their right to have such documents confined to those with a need-to-know - which the editor of a newspaper is not and neither are the readers - because of their convictions, no matter how horrible.

I hope the court keeps the floodgates slammed to and finds that nether the victims of the crimes of which the man was convicted, nor those who claim to be the victims of other crimes he is said to have committed, or the press have any locus standi.
