The focus seems to be on the squabble between divorced couples about money but that misses out a major issue. A lifetime maintenance order impacts on the children who have to deal with in effect an unresolved divorce. From personal experience it impacts on the ability to bring up your children post divorcee in a constructive way due to lack of certainty/perceived fairness. Baroness Deech has a bill in the Lords at second reading stage limiting maintenance payments to 5 years unless hardship so lets see.
