I think the profession now is very different to that which I joined. I certainly would not advise anyone to spend the time, energy and money I did to follow the law degree- LPC- training contract route if they can find some other way of obtaining the work that they want to undertake.

The point regarding the sunken costs fallacy is very appropriate (Anon 27 April 2018 09:44 GMT), not least because another subsequent post falls into that trap (27 April 2018 12:56 GMT), equating the time and money and effort spent on becoming a solicitor with its value. I would beg to differ. If you qualify as a solicitor but find it's not for you, then, if you can, do something else. There would be nothing worse than looking back years later and wishing you had chosen to spend your time otherwise.

For most of us, it is just a job. We're not curing cancer or engendering world peace. Things will go on if we decide that actually it's just not worth it and to do something else.
