Anon 08:08: I entirely agree. It seems that the HMCTS procurement service is staffed by my Grandmother, with no idea of what technology is required, what it does or how much it ought to cost. These are hardly the latest gaming devices - all they need is a laptop, which can access the internet, view documents and watch videos. As a lowly private practitioner, I bought myself a laptop that can do all of this 3 years ago for £300 and it still functions perfectly.

"Working closely with our suppliers" translates to 'that nice man from Crapita baffling us with the technology and making us pay hugely inflated prices for something we could pick up off the shelf for far less.'

The same thing happened at the CPS when they started digitising - I was told by one Crown Prosecutor that within 2 years, they had had 3 laptops at a cost of £1500 each because procurement was on the basis of 'buy first, think what we need to do with it later'.
