This system is completely broken. The legal profession is often referred to as an industry, law firms are conceived and run as businesses (to the point of being quoted on the stock exchange), legal knowledge is increasingly unaccessible and concentrated in the hands of a very few private service providers, access to justice is actively discouraged.
The result is that the cost of legal protection is unaffordable by the largest part of the population. No wonder people (and businesses) look for services at the lowest possible cost, exactly like they do for every other commodity.
