Why all the fuss about an Oxbridge education? Yes, it can have its advantages, but not going to Oxbridge is no bar to success if you bother to put the effort in. I went to a grammar school in the 1970s and was told that I “was not Oxbridge calibre”. Rather than moan about it, I got a good education at a redbrick university before embarking on a successful career in industry. I retrained to become a solicitor in my late 30s and have enjoyed a happy and successful second career in law, despite never going to Oxford.

Stop moaning and make the best of what you’ve got. If you’re good enough, you’ll get there in the end, and the journey may be a lot more interesting if you avoid Oxford for whatever reason.
