Mr Ball, let me refer you back to Mr Goldsmith's headline and concluding paragraph. He is an authority in these matters. Can I also remind you of the fact that the British electorate were for 40 years virtually excluded from any say whatsoever on this issue by an all-party consensus, and in particular that in 1992 they were denied a say (not necessarily by referendum, but any say at all) on whether they wished to become "citizens" of a nascent "European Union". You might also like to consider the conduct of our friends and partners since 2016, conduct which has been deliberately calculated to make any British exit as difficult and as damaging as possible, and an amicable one out of the question. I don't think even Mr G, a passionate Europhile, would seriously dispute that. At present, it's true, we cannot actually be restrained by force. How long do you think that will be the case if we are foolish enough to revoke Brexit and the ratcheting goes on for another decade or two?
