There is a broadly sympathetic summary and comment of the "news" in this week's edition of The Week. Well worth a read. As is - plug - the magazine.

Mr Dodd's analysis, if correct - and I'm not in any way saying that it isn't - seems to indicate that the MOJ's position is one of "now you see it, now you don't" - a temporary buy off, which is binding on the bar forever.

If so, it should be rejected.

We are told that the judges, the CPS, the bar and solicitors are all stressed. Does no one in charge understand?

Successive governments, minus a Lord Chancellor with clout, seem to have reduced the rule of law - and paying those who provide it to most of us - to a merchantable commodity. Which leaves out most of us.
