The NHS is a great idea in principle and generally works very well for the vast majority of users. It is, genuinely, a concept that everyone in Britain can be thoroughly proud of. It is also right to recognise it is a monolith, employing a vast number of people and costing staggering amounts of money.

I don't agree with much the Conservatives have done but I do agree the cost of the NHS needs to be properly managed, the alternative being a bottomless money pit. It also seems to me, though, that they have gone about that management in a very ham-fisted way. There needs to be cross party consensus on the way forward there but I fear our politicians are too immature/entrenched to talk sensibly. The Left believe the Right are evil and immoral and the Right believe the Left are stupid, impractical and incompetent. Neither position is helpful to society.

Those issues are, however, entirely separate from the principle that individuals are entitled to proper compensation when they have suffered injury and loss as a result of negligence.

Trying to conflate those two principles and thereby seek to justify demonising those who claim against the NHS (and/or those who act for them) is simply wrong.
