Clearly I'm not the only one somewhat lost by the SRA's approach here - prospects of success look weak, even from the outside.
That said, there is an appeal process and they should be free to follow it if they are of the view it is in the interests of justice.
You just can't help but feel they are in dire need of some PR guidance on the whole topic! The appeal isn't going to throw up new ground as such, so why not set out clearly their thinking and strategy on what they are trying to achieve. Obviously not everybody is going to agree, but you can at least justify your position.
Right now, it simply looks like the SRA have had spent significant resources, had their a**e handed to them and somebody near the top is trying to keep the music going and explain the expenditure away before she/he loses their job...
