This is one facet of a much larger problem which can be solved by The Judiciary, Barristers and solicitors STICKING TOGETHER. It is clearly important to have judges with the brains to sort out the most difficult situations. Judges need barristers who can make a living at their job to run trials properly and fairly. Both need solicitors to see the public and prepare the cases. All three have spent most of my 35 year career acting as if the other two don't matter - but the rule of law depends upon us. HMG and their lovers in the insurance industry and the press think everything will be better dumbed down and cheaper. They will not enjoy a country without the rule of law, which is what will happen when Judges can no longer face their lists, when advocates are effectively unqualified and when competent solicitors are no longer in business. We are in a fight, and the Civil Servants and their masters could not care less if they destroy one of the foundations of our liberty.
