Anon at 13.17 I think the point about funding relates to the amount of staff there are to do the amount of work. it does not really matter if a CPS lawyer gets paid even 10% more than they were paid the year before. assuming they were working as hard as they could, they cannot do 10% more work. it was not so long ago that civil servants were the poor relations, mocked for wanting a steady, secure job whilst some defence practitioners ripped the system off royally and are now retired driving Bentleys. the current generation of defence practitioners do have a bad deal but if you don't like it - get out of it - like I did!
