I find the NHSR and their legal advisers totally incompetent. I see cases frequently where they spend literally hundreds of thousands of pounds to defend a claim close to trial to suddenly before trial, cave in. They then spend another vast amount of money arguing the costs of that case to again cave in close to assessment. Had they just held their hands up early on and settle reasonable claims for reasonable amounts they would save millions. They are being advised to fight too many cases. I would love them to publish their figures showing us on average how many they admit before issue and how many they settle at various stages of the proceedings. What they need to do is employ a few specialist Doctors/Consultants who can screen all cases as soon as they are made and on the ones that have merit simple settle straight away.
